This as coastal school learners will be returning to the classroom starting from Wednesday.

However, 11 schools in the Midlands will only open on Thursday due to legal disputes over traditional leadership in uMkhambathini which has affected the opening of schools in the area.

Zikalala says despite the challenges and storm-damaged schools, teachers and schools are ready to kick off the school calendar.

"We want to confirm to parents that there is no learner who will not be able to go and learn at school. All those who go to school will be able to get in classes and start. And we do so but for now, there is rotational assisting but at the same time we are in mobile classrooms and this will assist with more learners.”

Meanwhile, children have begun arriving at various schools around the country as coastal schools begin their 2022 academic year today.

Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu is visiting the Izwilesizwe Primary School in Pietermaritzburg to monitor the first day back.
