Nepalese authorities have grounded the plane that was searching the aircraft carrying the DA's deputy leader in the North West, Petro Nel.
The province's provincial leader, Joe McGluwa has been in contact with Nel's family.
He says the decision call off the search has devastated the family.
"Currently, we have not been provided with any reason why it has been called off granted that the flight was forty minutes from where it was supposed to land. We are also happy that the ground search is still going on," he said.
Nel, who is on holiday in Nepal, was on a sightseeing flight over a mountainous area yesterday morning when contact was lost with the aircraft.
The first search and rescue flight in Pokhara, Nepal went out in the early hours of today and returned with no findings.
