Ahmed Kathrada's condition deteriorates
Struggle veteran Ahmed Kathrada's condition has deteriorated in the last 24 hours.
The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation says the ANC stalwart had "experienced several post-operation complications, rendering his condition serious".
Kathrada was hospitalised in Johannesburg earlier this month for surgery related to blood clotting on the brain.
The foundation's director Neeshan Balton confirms: "Kathrada has contracted pneumonia, which has affected both his lungs. Despite appropriate medical care, his condition is deteriorating. He is currently comfortable."
He asks that the public continue praying for Kathrada, his family and friends.
Kathrada, is one of three Rivonia Trialists, including Andrew Mlangeni and Denis Goldberg, still alive today.
