AFU puts corruption-accused KZN officials' assets on ice

The NPA's Asset Forfeiture Unit has frozen the assets of corruption-accused officials in the Office of the KZN Premier and service providers valued at R23 million.
Earlier this year, the Hawks arrested four officials in premier's office, including the CFO.
Four businesspeople were also taken into custody.

The government officials apparently manipulated procurement processes to influence the awarding of a R20 million catering tender in 2013.
All the accused appeared in court and were granted bail.

NPA spokesperson, Sipho Ngwema says 40 vehicles and 20 immovable assets, including a boutique hotel, have been seized.
"The seizure of the asset in connection with those charges will therefore be finalised through asset forfeiture process which then will run parallel to the criminal process that is taking place at the specialized commercials crimes court in Durban."
