Nhlalayenza Ndlovu was shot dead at his Midmar View home in Howick in December.

The Afriforum Private Prosecution Unit's Barry Bateman says last week, their unit head, Advocate Gerrie Nel, and some senior members visited Ndlovu's family, the municipal head, met at the crime scene.

"Several interviews revealed what appears to be a criminal scheme involving the unlawful sale of government land and illegal provision of services to occupants on the land. It is believed that Ndlovu’s objection to and attempts to thwart the criminal enterprise from continuing may have been the motive behind his assassination.

"While the visit to Howick was productive, the PPU is dismayed that it was unable to meet with the ‘presidentially appointed task team’ from the SAPS, despite sending numerous invitations to the lead investigator."

Bateman says the unit will work in partnership with an independent task team set up by the DA last year.

"The PPU, which was appointed to lead the investigation on the ground in partnership with the independent task team as announced by the DA last year, will intensify its efforts to engage with the police and provide support to their efforts to bring those responsible for this murder to justice.

"The independent task team and the PPU will endeavour to ensure that the assassination of Ndlovu does not become an investigation into perpetuity and yet another unsolved political murder in KwaZulu-Natal."

The DA last month said a R1 million reward was being offered for information on the murder.
