Many visitors were drawn to the exhibition stands of popular tourist spots like Ushaka Marine World and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife on the first day of the event.

Ezemvelo's Teboho Mokoena says the province's natural attractions are known to bring in lots of business for the province.

Other multi-billion-Rand developments such as the Point Waterfront precinct, Ocean's Umhlanga and the Beachwood Resort are putting KwaZulu-Natal on the international map.

The Africa Travel Indaba officially got underway yesterday and runs until the 10th of May at the Durban ICC.

The show kicked off with the announcement that British Airways will operate direct flights between the King Shaka International Airport and London Heathrow.

The three times a week flights take-off on the 29th of October.

Flights will arrive in Durban in the morning and land again the UK in the evening.

Local officials are confident the decision to launch the route will help improve relations between the UK and KwaZulu-Natal, while also helping grow the province's international tourism numbers.
