Activist urges women to leave abusive relationships early
Updated | By Tsakane Mhlongo
A gender-based violence activist says this Women’s Month should focus on the rehabilitation and healing of women.

It comes after the Dundee Regional Court this week sentenced a man to life and 20 years imprisonment for the rape and attempted murder of his partner.
It's understood the 44-year-old assaulted the woman several times in April 2023 after multiple arguments.
Dr Nadia Bernon, an activist with the Rapid Response Team, says there's nothing to celebrate this Women’s Month.

She says more women need to be taught how to leave abusive relationships.
" How do we make women independent to run on their own, to be independent on their own, and not dependent on an abusive relationship?
"Because most women are living in an abusive cycle behind closed doors. Women are in pain and because of society and their stigma, this is where we are at."
