Action SA opens online portal for residents to elect ward councillors
Updated | By Andrew Robertson
Political party, Action SA, says before they're considered for nomination, its ward councillor candidates will be thoroughly vetted.

The party's launched an online platform that'll allow residents to choose a ward councillor ahead of the local government elections.
The successful candidate will represent the party on the ballots.
It's National Campaign Manager, Michael Beaumont said its candidate election system is different.
Beaumont says a selection committee will handle the screening process - which includes a values test.
"We do not take away the fact that we have the responsibility not to put people in front of them who aren't who they say they are, or who are dishonest or have committed crimes in the past or anything of that nature.

"So that candidate selection process in the background through our online portal requires all manners of documentation to be uploaded that the examples prove that the individual does live in the municipality and the ward in question where they are applying."
President of Action SA, Herman Mashaba says the process is a game-changer and will allow people to have a say about who they want to serve them.
"Simply stated, our political system encourages party loyalty over accountability to the voter. This much change.
"Action SA is a party that acts as one and turns works into action because with our political system. There's to be too much talk and not enough action.
"Therefore, Action SA will disrupt candidate election systems in South African politics and return political power back to the hands of the people.
