Academic year to be completed in 2021: Nzimande
Updated | By Jacaranda fm
Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has confirmed that the 2020 academic year will only be completed next year.
He was briefing the media in Pretoria on Wednesday.
"The 2020 academic year we may as well say now will only be completed in the early part of 2021 which will mean a later start to the 2021 academic year. This will require a re-adjustment of next year's academic calendar," said Nzimande.
Universities are currently phasing-in the 33% of students who are allowed to attend class on campus under level 3 of the lockdown.

This includes students who are in their final year, students who need clinical and laboratory training, and students with disabilities.
"We urge students who are not supposed to go back to campus, not to attempt to go back because by doing that they are undermining our management and the fight against COVID-19 and in the process, their behaviour can lead to infections and deaths," added Nzimande.
