A look back at the hilarious KZN traffic fails during 2017

2017 has been an interesting year on the KZN roads. Our traffic reporter, Jayshree has decided to relive some of the hilarious moments over the past year.

Over 2017, East Coast Radio has launched traffic across the day which means that you will be constantly updated with traffic reports throughout your workday.

Most of my days over the year as a traffic reporter consisted of the pretty ordinary bulletin which included stuff such as the ongoing roadworks on the N2 and the standard fender bender. But over the year, there have been traffic fails which have just had me scratching my head after seeing these traffic fails.

I'm not sure how these 3 motorists did this but we have drivers that are just as fast and Furious here in KZN. Take a look at some of the funny accidents that took place on our roads this year and it left me asking 'how did you do that'?

For me, although reporting is something that I am passionate about, there are sad moments as many accidents on the roads are not a pretty sight, but there some days when I sit back and have a good laugh at some of our drivers. How does one drive contraflow and not expect to meet with an accident? How can a truck driver not see that his truck will not fit under that bridge when the height is clearly displayed on the bridge?

Check out the top 3 fails below:

I know skateboarders are capable of this but here’s a first for a driver that’s not walking but rather driving on the tightrope

Here's a truck driver doing the limbo and attempting the 'how low can you go'

Then on a daily basis, I get motorists who call in and have conversations with me which simply don't make any sense to me.

Caller 1

Motorist: There’s an accident on the N3. It’s causing huge traffic and is very serious.

Me: 'In which direction on the N3? Eastbound or Westbound?'

Motorist: 'I don’t know'

Me: 'Where were you travelling to when you saw the accident?'

Motorist: 'I didn’t see the accident. I got a WhatsApp message on my phone so I thought I’d let you know. (Hangs Up)'

Caller 2

Motorist: 'Hello. There’s a serious accident on the N2'

Me: 'Which direction on the N2 or can you give me a landmark?'

Motorist: 'I don’t know which direction but it’s near where my brother lives because I can see his house from the N2'

Caller 3

Motorist: 'Hello East Coast traffic. Please can you tell me when the rain will stop because I need to go to the mall?'

Caller 4

Motorist: 'Hello East Coast Traffic. Please can you help me speak to Bongani or Mags from East Coast Drive because I want to enter the Secret Sound competition'

Hilarious! Our traffic hotline is literally too hot to handle.

On behalf of the East Coast Radio traffic team, I want to thank you for all the calls in helping us make the roads safe for others to travel on and informing motorists of the dangers they needed to be aware of.

Together we have helped thousands of drivers on a daily basis reach their destination safely. I look forward to 2018 where we will be providing you with accurate, up to date and prompt traffic reports. As I always say at the end of my bulletins, 'Drive safely and stay alert'.
