98.82% matric pass rate for IEB exams
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exam results are out, and a total of 98.82% matric pupils have passed.

The Class of 2019 results is a slight decrease from 2018's matric pass rate of 98.92%.
The IEB which represents the country's private schools, says it's very proud of the Class of 2019.
"Well the learners have done extremely well again this year," says CEO Anne Oberholzer.
"The entry to Degree for Bachelor's studies at universities is 89.5%. We are really proud of the learners. They have done themselves proud. They have performed to the best of their ability," she said.

More than 11 800 full-time pupils sat for the final papers last year.
Oberholzer explains what may have contributed to the slight drop in the pass rate.
She says there are schools which were introduced to the IEB system, for the first time and are still adjusting.
"Last year's pass rate was 98.92 % as opposed to the 98.82% this year. It's worked out to about 12 students, and that probably can be attributed to almost 300 new students to the IEB to new schools who have joined, and it always takes schools a year or two to settle down and get used to the actual demand of the exam," she said.
For matrics who wrote the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, their results will be released on Wednesday.
