6 000 new recruits to aid crime-fighting communities in KZN

Police in KZN say 6 000 new recruits are being trained to help community forums tackle crime.

A total of 85 vehicles were handed over to community-based crime-fighting groups yesterday.
The provincial government says the R32 million package includes torches, uniforms and safety boots for volunteers.

The handover ceremony led by Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube took place in Durban.
The police's Phumelele Makoba says they are serious about working with communities to fight crime.
"Initiatives such as these will go a long way to support the police in our endeavours and strategies in the fight against crime. A more coordinated approach is required from all road players both in government and other sectors of society."
