Amnesty International appeals to voters to prioritise basic rights

An NGO has urged South Africans to prioritise their basic human rights when casting their ballots in next month's elections.
Amnesty International says over 3 million people do not have access to water, while 5 million have poor access to safe drinking water.
The Water and Sanitation Department's Blue and No Drop report last year highlighted a decline in drinking water quality since 2014.

Genevieve Quintal, who is with Amnesty International South Africa, says people must understand that they have the power to hold officials accountable.
"It’s important for them to understand fundamental human rights."
