5 killed in multi-vehicle crash on N2 in Umtentweni
Investigations have begun into a horror multi-vehicle crash on the south coast, that’s left five people dead.
"We are also exploring the possibilities of checking all the vehicles, the drivers because there are strong allegations that some of the drivers might have been under the influence of alcohol during the accident; however, that is unverified at the moment,” says KwaZulu-Natal Transport spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane.
Three vehicles collided on the N2 in the Umtentweni area late Sunday afternoon.
Ncalane says five people succumbed to their injuries on the scene.
"Three others are critical and were taken to hospital. Others have also been treated for minor injuries. It is alleged that on driver lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with an on-coming vehicle.
"The accident involved three vehicles, which are a VW Golf, a Toyota Condor and a Nissian Navara. Our teams have been on the scene and they have started the preliminary investigation."
