3 killed in Ladysmith horror crash involving train, minibus

KZN officials at Transnet Freight Rail have appealed to members of the public to exercise more caution in the wake of a deadly crash at a level crossing near Danskraal in Ladysmith.
A minibus collided with a train at the Frere and Chievely level crossing killing three people on Thursday.
None of the train's crew members were hurt.

Mike Asefovitz - who's with Transet Freight Rail - is appealing to motorists and community members to be extra-cautious at trail level crossings.
"The law requires motorists to bring a vehicle to a complete standstill at level crossings.
"A train requires at least a kilometre to come to a standstill and the driver cannot, unlike a motorist, apply brakes immediately or stop immediately or swerve out of the way."
