2.8% pay rise for municipal workers is a slap in the face says SAMWU
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Municipal workers say the latest wage increase offer they've received from the local government is an insult.

Salga wants to give them a 2.8% pay rise.
Employees are demanding a R4 000 increase - across the board.
They want entry-level salaries to be adjusted to R15 000-rand and are asking for an R3 500 housing allowance - among other things.
The Local Government Association says municipal coffers have been hit hard by the COVID-19 outbreak.
Municipal workers' union Samwu represents around 160 000 members across the country.

SAMWU says the offer by SALGA is a spit in the face of the workers. " They have carried this country throughout the pandemic and continued ensuring that the delivery of quality services is not disrupted or interrupted.
"Despite workers facing the greater risk of contracting the virus in the workplace as a result of the incompetence and reluctance of employers to ensure that the health and safety of workers are guaranteed.
The union says it's trying to close the wage gap.
