27 Covid-19 vaccination sites active in KZN, more to be phased in

KwaZulu-Natal Health says it's identified more than 600 vaccination sites across the province.
KZN's readying itself for phase two of the country's Covid vaccine rollout - which officially gets underway from Monday.
MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu says under the Sisonke study, nearly 70 000 healthcare workers have received the shot, so far.
She says they'll start with 27 sites for now and phase others in as they gear up for phase three.
"The 600 that I am talking about also includes community halls and community centres that we are going to be utilising later on in the year. But the first 27 sites have been prepared for this purpose and those include our own facilities as the department of health."

The Royal Showgrounds, the Pinetown Civic Centre and King Zwelithini Stadium, have also been identified as mass vaccination sites.
"In Harry Gwala, because there's just one hospital there, we'll be utilising E.G.Usher Memorial Hospital, Ilembe we'll be using Umphumulo, Ugu it's GJ Crookes Hospital and Port Shepstone. The list is long and we are going to be tabling this particular list."
Simelane-Zulu says because phase two targets the elderly - old age homes will be prioritised, especially those in eThekwini.
"Because eThekwini has the biggest number, we will then start with the old age homes but the vaccinations will continue to the 18th, 19th and the 20th because there's about 50 old age homes in that district alone."
