26 arrested for destructive KZN protests

At least 26 people have been arrested in connection with the violent protests that erupted in parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

"In Empangeni, 19 people were arrested for blockading the roads and throwing stones at motorists," KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker said.
"Last night at Mooi River, we had an instance where the community had rolled burning tyres onto the road. A number of trucks caught alight. We arrested a total of seven suspects in that incident."

Naicker says since Friday, officers in various parts of the province have been trying to quell the demonstrations, many which been destructive.
"There was protest across the province last night where people were blockading the road burning tyres and debris alight on the roads.
"In some incidents, we had people remove the keys of trucks and park trucks off major intersections to disrupt the traffic flow."
