2018 Year in Review: #DurbanBombs keep city on edge

A series of bomb threats in and around Durban raised concern among community members earlier this year.

Several incendiary devices were found planted at prominent venues, including shopping centres, over a period spanning several months.

Eleven suspects were eventually arrested in connection with the threats.

They have since been released on bail and are due back in court in February.

The suspects have also been linked to a fatal knife attack at a mosque in Verulam, north of Durban. The attack occurred after prayers in May.

Several of the devices were found inside Woolworths stores. The retailer beefed up security, with security guards searching shoppers and their bags before allowing them inside.

The searches continued until the arrests were made in October.
