2017 Year in Review: Hero medic dies following #DurbanStorm
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
KwaZulu-Natal went into mourning on the 13th of October after a well-known paramedic died following the severe #DurbanStorm.
ER24 says Vicky Govender died in hospital three days after the KwaZulu-Natal coast was lashed by severe weather conditions on the 10th of October.
Govender put his own life at risk to help save those caught up in the deluge.
Govender, who had been stationed at the private ambulance service's Highway branch, and his colleague Tracy Bederson had been responding to a collision on the N2 freeway when their ambulance overturned on the flooded roads.
Both medics were rushed to an Amanzimtoti hospital, where Govender later died due to the extensive injuries he sustained.
ER24 says condolences poured in for Govender's friends and family from across the country.
A spokesperson said Govender had a major influence on the lives and careers of his colleagues.
