Ngcobo's 7-year-old son, unaware that his mother was no longer alive, slept next to her that night.

Ngcobo’s childhood friend, Phumlani Nteta believes he could have saved her if he had just made one call.

"As a friend, I feel like I let her down. I knew they were fighting, but then I didn't do anything."

"I was supposed to pick up the phone and call the right department and then maybe she would be safe," he said.

Ngcobo’s suspected killer went into hiding. The 27-year-old man was arrested and charged with her murder three days later.
