'Delayed verification process' leaves 150k SASSA beneficiaries out of pocket
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Over 150,000 South African Social Security Agency beneficiaries have not been paid their social grants for January.
SASSA says this is due to a delay in the verification process conducted every month to prevent fraud.
Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says beneficiaries will be paid once their personal details have been verified.
"The South African Social Security Agency can confirm that it's about 150,000 people who were affected by non-payment. This was due to the fact that we had to do the verification processes. We communicate with them that they must come and verify if they are still alive."
