15 hurt in crash near Westville

Fifteen people including two teenagers have been rushed to the hospital, after a taxi crashed with a car on the M13 near the Westville area, on Thursday.

Paramedics reported to the scene earlier today where the head-on collision happened, causing the taxi to roll over on its side.

Rescue Care spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson says only two adults sustained serious injuries while others sustained minor to moderate injuries.
"Multiple people were found lying on the highway whilst one occupant of the vehicle was entrapped in the passenger seat. Immediately more ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support Units and Rescue were dispatched to assist. The Jaws of Life were used to cut the seriously injured passenger free from the wreckage."
"Once free the patient was loaded into an ambulance and rushed through to Hospital. The remaining patients who had all sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious once stabilised were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required," he said.
Events leading to the crash are unknown at this stage, but will be investigated by police.
