A 13-year-old boy who was shot dead during a supermarket heist in Bergville yesterday afternoon spent his last moments in a bathroom stall.
A well-placed source tells Newswatch that when a gang of heavily armed men opened fire, the terrified child tried to hide.
But a volley of stray bullets found him.
His was not the only life claimed by the violence. A total of three people were killed and three others wounded.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says the men stormed the store at around 4pm. She says they killed a 27-year-old security guard and injured his colleague, thought to be in his mid forties, and two civilians.
"During the crossfire, two other people were shot and killed, a 13-year-old boy as well a 45-year-old woman. The suspects fled with the firearms belonging to the security company as well as an undisclosed amount of cash," Mbhele said.
