12 hour water shutdown for ILembe

There'll be a 12-hour water shutdown in ILembe District from six this evening.

Umgeni Water says it'll be doing repair work following a severe leak on the scour valve.


The utility's spokesperson Shami Harichunder says at least 30 areas might be affected, including the KwaDukuza CBD, Ohlange, Stanger Manor and Zinkwazi. 


"There's been a break on the portable water pipeline that comes lower Thukela Bulk Water Supply Scheme in Mandeni. The reservoirs are full at this stage but there are no guarantees that there will be water available.

"By the time water is available to consumers it will probably only be around 8 o'clock tomorrow morning because it takes about two hours to recharge the pipeline and to recharge the reservoirs."
