11 schools in uMkhambathini won’t open doors on Wednesday

KZN Education says 11 schools in uMkhambathini near Pietermaritzburg won't open on Wednesday after some members of the community allegedly threatened to prevent learners and teachers from entering.
Officials
say some residents have locked the gates with heavy chains and padlocks.
KZN Education spokesperson Kwazi Mshengu says schools in the area are a soft target and being used as a bargaining tool in an ongoing legal dispute involving the local traditional leadership.

"Some schools have in fact tried to open the heavy chains and padlocks. All of a sudden they received they have received death threats. In time we are going to come up with a clear plan to ensure that there is a smooth opening of schools come Thursday.
“The schools will therefore be delayed by one day.”
