10 Durban unrest suspects in court

The case against ten people arrested in connection with the violent unrest in and around Durban have been postponed for bail consideration.
Amongst the ten accused, police confirmed that some were arrested in connection with some of the murders that took place in Phoenix, north of Durban during the unrest.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecution Authority in KwaZulu-Natal Natasha Kara says they made their first appearance in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The charges against the accused include murder and attempted murder.
"The matters were held in camera to protect the identity of the accused persons as identity parades are yet to be conducted,” says Kara.
"The matters were remanded to Friday, 30 July 2021 for bail consideration."
