KZN Education pleased with virus safety measures

With pupils and teachers back in the classroom, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education says it's pleased with the measures it's put in place to create a smooth transition to the third term.

Schools weren't spared during the recent unrest. 


One hundred and thirty-seven of them in total were vandalised in KZN.

Three education centres and eight circuit offices were also targeted earlier in July. 


The department's spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says classroom safety was a top priority at a meeting between MEC Kwazi Mshengu, the South African Democratic Teachers Union and other stakeholders this past weekend. 


"We have tried all that is humanly possible to get our schools ready, including schools that were vandalised.

"In some instances, we have provided them with mobile classrooms with deliveries that were on Friday. Some of the things we will deal with them when we hit the ground running."
