1 killed, others injured during police station shootout
One person has been killed and four others have been wounded in a shooting at the Isipingo police station.
All those shot yesterday afternoon were suspects, with no police officers harmed. It appears - at this stage - to have been an attempted jail break.
But police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says they are still probing the circumstances under which the shooting occurred.
"The police officers were conducting their routine holding cell visits when they were overpowered by the suspects who were inside the cells. The suspects allegedly held up the officers with a firearm. Subsequently, one suspect was shot and killed while four others were wounded.
"We have opened an inquest docket and are also investigating four counts of attempted murder," Zwane said.
