Durban woman fatally scalds alleged home intruder

Police have opened an
inquest docket after a Durban woman scalded an alleged home intruder, killing
him.

The incident happened on Monday night at the woman's home in Berea.
The alleged knife-wielding intruder is said to have broken the kitchen door to gain entry into the house on Ferndale Road.

"The woman poured the boiling water on the suspect as she screamed for help.
"The suspect reportedly ran outside the house and collapsed and died. Police are investigating," says police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda.
Hours earlier, a man and a woman were shot and killed during a house robbery in KwaMashu, north of the city.
Police say the assailants broke into the house while the two victims were sleeping.
They ransacked the home before fleeing.
A manhunt continues for the killers.
