Yvonne Chaka Chaka to receive Lifetime Award at the first Basadi Awards

The Princess of Africa will be honoured for the incredible work she has done in making our continent a better place.

Yvonne Chaka Chaka has been singing since she was 19 years old. 

Dubbed the 'Princess of Africa', the singer has received countless awards and recognition for her humanitarian work and music. 

Another award will be presented to her on Saturday, October 15th.

The Basadi in Music Awards has announced that it will be honouring Yvonne with a Lifetime Achievement Award. 

The event takes place at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.

Yvonne released her first album, 'I’m In Love With The DJ', in 1986 and in 1987 she released 'I’m Burning Up'.

With a career spinning more than 30 years, Yvonne is truly a legend of the entertainment industry. 

The 'Umqombothi' hitmaker has won South African Music Awards, a BET Award, and Kora Awards. 

She is also big on charity work. Some of the initiatives she is involved in include: 

- UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador against malaria

- Ambassador for Roll-Back Malaria 

- Founder of the Princess of Africa Foundation. 

According to her website, in 2001, the singer was named one of the Top 100 Heroes of South Africa by the Star Newspaper. 

She is also the recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
