"Watching myself on screen, I’m confronted with a reality that’s hard to accept."

'The Real Housewives of Durban (RHODurban)' star Nonku Williams has social media users talking after her shocking announcement.
Williams has decided to leave the Showmax reality show "after much reflection".
She shared the surprising news in a post shared on Instagram.
"I’ve made the difficult decision not to return to the show and to distance myself from the reunion. It’s not an easy choice, but it’s one I must make," she wrote.
"Watching myself on screen, I’m confronted with a reality that’s hard to accept. The woman I see isn’t someone I recognise or respect."
'RHODurban' is currently wrapping up its fifth season. Williams had her fair share of drama this season, with some viewers labelling her "toxic".
She acknowledges the role she has played in "shaping this narrative".
"But I’m also a product of the show’s dynamics. The relentless pursuit of drama, the pitting of women against each other, the gossip, and the put-downs – it’s a toxic cycle that wears me down."
I’m choosing to break free from this cycle, to seek a path that uplifts and inspires. I’m choosing to use my platform to spread love, kindness, and positivity. I’m choosing to be a role model for my children and for others who may be watching. I’m choosing to prioritise my well-being and to take care of myself. I’m choosing to be authentic, to be true to myself, and to live a life that reflects my values.- Nonku Williams
Williams is embracing positivity moving forward and focusing on her mental health.
"As I look to the future, I’m reminded of my responsibilities – to myself, my children, my faith, and the community. I want to make a difference, to leave a positive mark on the world.
"But this show, with its destructive tendencies, isn’t the platform for that. I’ve come to realise that I have a responsibility to myself to prioritise my well-being, to protect my mental health, and to surround myself with positivity," she wrote.
Williams adds that she wants to be a role model to her children and teach them about kindness, empathy, and compassion. I
"As I close this chapter, I hope my story can serve as a testament to the power of self-awareness, courage, and redemption," she concluded.
Williams is often described as one of the "greatest housewives" of the South African franchise, which includes 'The Real Housewives of Johannesburg', 'The Real Housewives of Pretoria' and 'The Real Housewives of Cape Town'.
Social media users have had mixed reactions to her departure. Many said Williams was one of the main reasons they watched.
"Now, let’s see if your faves will be able to carry [the show] without Miss Nonku Williams International," one viewer wrote on X.
Another user asked: "Cancel the d**n show!! Cancel it!! I’m not even a Nonku fan, but that show is nothing without her."
Others were happy to see her go."Good riddance, very evil woman," one person said.
A second person commented: "She was becoming too much with her amnesia and endless apologies."
