Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ album back on the charts

'Thriller' turns 40! The ‘King of Pop’ continues to make music history 13 years after his death.

Michael Jackson’s iconic album, ‘Thriller’ – which officially turns 40 on Wednesday (November 30), has returned to the US charts. The ‘King of Pop’ passed away in 2009 but his music lives on.

‘Thriller’ is currently at No.7 on the Billboard 200’s album chart ahead of ‘Harry’s House’ (Harry Styles), ‘Jupiter's Diary: 7 Day Theory’ (Rod Wave), and ‘Christmas’ (Michael Bublé).

According to Billboard, the 40th anniversary reissue gave the album a major boost in 2022.

‘Thriller’ sold over 70-million copies during its original 1982 release and remains the best-selling album of all time.

The album broke scores of records at the time and spent a whopping 37 non-consecutive weeks at No.1 between 1983 and 1984.

The offering produced hit songs such as ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Beat It’, ‘The Girl Is Mine’, ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, and ‘Thriller’.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’, which debuted in October 2022, is currently at #1 on the album chart.

The ‘King of Pop’ has also re-entered the ‘Artist 100’ chart. He is currently at number 10. Taylor remains at #1 with a record-breaking 55 weeks in the top spot over the years. 

“The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay and streaming to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity,” according to Billboard.

‘Thriller 40’ was released on November 18. The 40th-anniversary edition is the third reissue of the album. A  special edition version was released in 2001 followed by ‘Thriller 25’ in 2008.

Michael has sold more than one million album units in 2022.
