James Corden considers bringing back 'Carpool Karaoke' for Rihanna
Updated | By Music Reporter
The 'Smurfs' co-stars recorded a duet for the movie, and James Corden hopes Rihanna will help fulfill

James Corden's 'Carpool Karaoke' could make a brief return, and we have Rihanna to thank.
Corden and Rihanna star in the new Smurfs movie, which will be released in South African cinemas on Friday, July 11.
Riri voices Smurfette while Corden voices No Name Smurf. The Barbados singer recorded an original song for the film's soundtrack called 'Friend of Mine'.
It's the first time Rihanna has released new music since 'Lift Me Up' in 2022 for the 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' movie.
Rihanna and Corden also recorded a surprise duet for the 'Smurfs' film.
During the world premiere in Brussels, Corden revealed that he tried to get the 'Umbrella' singer to appear on his show for years.
"I tried for eight years to get Rihanna to do a 'Carpool Karaoke' so the closest we got was an animated 'Smurfs' feature," he told Entertainment Tonight (ET).
"She would always say to me, 'When the new record is out'. And then I finished the show before that record came out."
'Carpool Karaoke' was a segment on 'The Late Late Show With James Corden'. The show ended in 2023 with Adele as its final guest.
Rihanna last released an album in January 2016. She is currently working on a new album, but has not shared a release date.
She is also pregnant with her third child, making a 2025 release unlikely.
However, when 'R9', as her ninth studio album is nicknamed, is released, Corden says he is willing to bring 'Carpool Karaoke' just for her.
"I legitimately would, just for a week," he said.
South African singer Tyla also has a song featured on the 'Smurfs' soundtrack.
'Everything Goes With Blue' with track number 11 on the soundtrack. Cardi B and DJ Khaled are also featured.
