Is Kate Middleton a Dolly Parton fan?  The country singer has revealed that she was once invited to have tea with the Princess of Wales.

Speaking to Sally Boazman during a segment on Claudia Winkleman's BBC Radio 2 show, Dolly explained that she has been to London on several occasions in the past, including on tour.

She was in the city again several weeks ago to promote her first-ever rock album, 'Rockstar'. That's when she got an invite to rub shoulders with one of the UK's most senior royal family members.

"This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate and I felt so bad, I couldn’t even go... I thought that was very sweet and nice of her to invite me to tea. One of these days I’m going to be able to get to do that. Wouldn't that have been great? But she wasn’t going to promote my rock album, so I had to say no," the 77-year-old joked.

Dolly also talked about how she felt when she heard Whitney Houston's cover of her 1973 song, 'I Will Always Love You'.

Whitney recorded the song for her 1992 movie, 'The Bodyguard', which also starred Kevin Costner

"They called me about it. I sent it to them. I said, 'Be sure and make certain that that last verse can be sung. I did a recitation but don't leave it off like Linda Ronstadt did because she thought, I can't do a recitation.' But it's in the same melody. I just talked it, but I had it written. And I didn't hear any more about it," Dolly said.

The country star says she didn't know if they had used the song or not until she heard it on the radio.

"I was in my car and I heard, 'If I...' I about wrecked my car. I had to pull over and listen because you can't imagine how that hit me.  I was just, you know, chilled to the bone. And it was so great. So much better than my version and so much bigger. I had no idea that song could be done like that."
