Dineo Ranaka opens up about suicidal thoughts in worrying social posts

Dineo Ranaka's friends and family are rallying around her after she revealed that she is in a dark place mentally.

The media personality - who has opened up about her mental health struggles in the past - sparked concern after sharing a series of alarming posts on her Instagram page. 

 In one post, she explained that she understands why some people take their own lives.

"Because I am trying not to commit suicide. My mind is sooooooo loud of late and life is f***ing loud and I'm trying my best but it seems my best is not good enough," the mother of three wrote.

Dineo's followers, including some of her famous friends, took to the comments section to send her messages of support. 

"We love you nana, it might seem hard right now but it shall pass. Please keep fighting," Mafikizolo's Nhlanhla Nciza wrote. 

Well-known celebrity events planner, Precious Thamaga-Mazibuko, commented: "God will never leave you or forsake you sis. Even when it’s hard to pray and see a better day, know He is with you always. Don’t give up. You are worthy, some seasons are harder, cast your fears unto Him. Sending you so much love & peace in your heart."

Singer Brenda Mtambo told Dineo that she knows how it feels. 

"Hang in there, trust me it does pass. Your kids need you and I pray you hang in there, sthandwa Sam," she wrote. 

Minnie Dlamini added: "Nothing stays the same forever Mama."

Dineo Ranaka's sister, Manaka Ranaka, also reached out to her in the comments. 

"Strength is you and YOU are strength. I'm committed to showing you what that means if you can't see it or feel it," she wrote. 

"Dineo Ranaka" trended on Twitter on Tuesday, with scores of social media users praying that she overcomes this difficult period in her life. 

"You gave a lot of us hope. Please Find the strength to live up to this. Praying for you," one Twitter user captioned an old video of Dineo giving her advice.

Others urged Dineo's friends and family to check on her. 

"She has been through a lot and probably still going through it," one Twitter user wrote.

Some Twitter users noted how other celebrities have also opened up about their struggles in the past. 

"Dineo Ranaka reminds me of how Ricky Rick was talking about mental breakdown and no one helped him until he took his own life. SA please Lets not only pray for her but try to reach out and help her before it's too late." one tweep wrote

South African rapper Riky Rick lost his battle with depression in February 2022. He was 34.

Celebrities who have battled with depression

Several stars have opened up about their battles with depression in the past. Rapper Gigi LaMayne described suicide as the "new pandemic". 

She has spent the last few years using her platform to educate people about mental health.

"Woke up to news that one of my university mates took his life last night. A motivational speaker and writer. It [doesn’t] make sense… The new pandemic is suicide… a silent genocide… lurking in the struggles of the youth. Slowly emerging … the fire is becoming uncontrollable," she tweeted in July 2022.
