BET Awards: Mariah Carey performes 'Type: Dangerous' live

Mariah Carey performed her new song live for the first time at the BET Awards.

The 2025 BET Awards was a star-studded affair with A-list stars such as Jennifer Hudson, Shaboozey, Ciara, Doechii, Tia Mowry and Kevin Hart walking the red carpet.

However, the night belonged to music legend Mariah Carey. The 56-year-old was honoured with the 'Ultimate Icon' award.

Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg and gospel star Kirk Franklin were also honoured.

Carey stole the show by performing her new single, 'Type: Dangerous', live for the first time.

She was escorted down gold stage steps while wearing a long white coat, surrounded by male dancers dressed in white.

One of the dancers helps her remove the coat, revealing a gold mini dress with fringe-like details.

"She does look amazing. So pretty in that gold," one Instagram user remarked.

Busta Rhymes presented the 'I Know What You Want' hitmaker with the 'Ultimate Icon' award.

Carey revealed she was receiving her first-ever BET Award during her acceptance speech.

"I heard this is actually my first BET Award, and I mean, if you're going to get one, you might as well start with the 'Ultimate Icon' award," she said.

The singer also gave a special shoutout to her fellow award recipients.

"It's incredible to be here alongside Kirk Franklin, Jamie Foxx and Snoop. I love you guys, congratulations."

Carey concluded her speech with a few words of wisdom.

"My life and career have been quite the adventure... It took me a while, but I finally realised that life is far too short to live for anyone's approval. So I decided to own who I am: my extra-ness, my fabulousness, and yes, my success and iconicness.

"I just want to encourage everyone out there to believe in yourself, love and respect yourself, be a diva, be a boss, be anything you want to be."

Other entertainers who walked away with awards included Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Chris Brown, Future, Summer Walker, and Denzel Washington.
