The IEC expects to announce the results at around 11 o'clock this morning.

With about 98% of the vote in the Metro counted, DA mayoral candidate Atholl Trollip declared victory last night.

" We won Kouga [municipality] next door because the people of Kouga could see what was happening in the Western Cape and they wanted what was happening in the Western Cape. They got it.

"We have won Nelson Mandela Bay, we will be the biggest party, we will be putting a government together.

"I know they have known the result for hours [and] they wont announce it but the facts are that they DA will be the biggest party because that's what you wanted," he said.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane also added shared his excitement at the party's performance in the metro.

"I think that's deeply exciting for us, that's early projections and we will make sure that the final figure is confirmed.

"We are quite thrilled about the fact that our offer has resonated with South Africans. We have put our message of change and voters have heard us. We have grown in many communities so I am personally and deeply excited about it," he said.
