MEC says unaware of provincial cabinet reshuffle

KZN Transport MEC Willies Mchunu says he is unaware of any provincial Cabinet reshuffles.

Mchunu says he has not received any credible information from the ANC in KZN on the possible recall of Premier Senzo Mchunu. Willies Mchunu has been identified in reports as Senzo Mchunu’s possible replacement. He made the comment at a National Prayer Day Event at Growthpoint Kings Park in Durban. The MEC says he is filling in for the Premier today as Senzo Mchunu could not make the event.
"I have come here at the request of the Premier of province who apologises to the nation, the people of KZN and to the president for his inability to be here," he said.
"However he has asked me to represent him and to make sure that I convey to the public and to the president his sentiments," Mchunu said.
Speculation was rife on Friday that Senzo Mchunu had been given until tomorrow to resign from the position. Meanwhile, hundreds of people have begun entering the stadium, where President Jacob Zuma is expected to deliver the main speech this afternoon.
Religious and civil society leaders are also represented at the prayer meeting for national cohesion ahead of the local government elections, and an end to the severe drought.
