The South African Revenue Service says investigations into a case involving a passenger busted with gold bars at King Shaka International Airport is still in the initial stages.

The man had just arrived at the Durban airport from Dubai last week , when customs officials noticed bulges in his pockets underneath the kurta he wore.
SARS' Sandile Memela says upon searching him officials found gold bars worth R3-million were found.
''He was identified as a potential suspect and when he was taken in for inspection we found 48 gold bars weighing 5.6kgs in his pockets and money bag that was wrapped around his waist.
''The suspect has been taken into custody and has yet to appear in court,'' he said.

Memela says this is the second bust by customs officials in the city in recent weeks after ecstasy tablets worth over R300 000 were discovered in a parcel at the Mail Centre.
The package had been posted to a Durban address from the Netherlands.
