SA musicians who died or lost their parents due to COVID-19
South Africa has been mourning the deaths of these celebrities who died as a result of coronavirus infection.
The coronavirus has taken the lives of nearly two-million people around the globe.
In South Africa, as of 4 January 2021, at least 29,175 people have died due to the virus.

Some of our celebrities have taken to social media to share the pain of losing their parents due to the killer virus.
Nathi Mankayi
‘Ndim Lo’ hitmaker Nathi Mankayi lost his parents during the festive season due to COVID-19.
Nathi took to Twitter to speak about the pain he is suffering, especially because he lost both his parents within a short space of time.
“Kweziveki zimbini zidlulileyo [ In the past two weeks] I lost my dearest mother & father in a matter of days & experienced the darkest days of my life. I felt & still feel pain in ways that can’t be put to words. With that said, today, on my birthday day, I celebrate them! Lalani ngoxolo mama no tata [ Rest in peace mom and dad]."

Dr Tumi
Multi-award-winning singer Dr Tumi buried his father on December 31 after he succumbed to COVID-19.

The ‘Nothing Without You’ hitmaker wrote a beautiful
tribute to his dad on his Facebook page.
“Hi Fam. So sad to announce about the passing of my dear dad. He was such a beautiful gift to our family and the body of Christ. So humbled and honoured for the years God blessed me with him in my life. It was such a great honour to be called his son. One of the greatest gift was him raising me to know Christ and showing me the unfailing love of a father. This is such a great loss in my life and our family. I will deeply and greatly miss him,” he wrote.

In March Dr Tumi volunteered his services to help coronavirus patients. He left the medical field to pursue a career in music.
"Hi fam. I want to play a part in helping our government with the fight against CORONAVIRUS. Starting this Friday, I’ll be volunteering my time for free working at one of the local hospitals at their COVID 19 units during the 21 days," he wrote on Twitter.

South Africa recently lost amapiano star Gee Six Five, real name Nkosingiphile Selepe.

hitmaker died in December after being diagnosed
with COVID-19.

Selepe passed away today in Durban where she had been self-isolating under the
