The incredible line-up includes Bob James, Deborah Cox, Spyro Gyra, and the Neville Brothers.
Jazz lovers around the country are getting ready for the biggest jazz festival in Soweto, a first of its kind, dedicated to the historical region of Gauteng.
It is the inaugural Soweto Jazz festival where international jazz stars will be sharing the stage with some of South Africa’s best jazz artists, such as Ernie Smith, Zama Jobe, and Charlie Wilson.
“The amazing thing is that it kind of puts South African artists on the same stage, on the same level as international artist and for me that’s very important,” Ernie Smith told People Magazine SA.
Because the festival coincides with Youth Day, organiser Nolan Baynes of International Arts Solutions toldNews24 that young South African artists such as Khaya Mthethwa, Mi Casa, and rapper Nasty C will also form a part of the line-up.
The four-day festival is a tribute to Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday and Hugh Masekela, who passed away in January.
It will be taking place from Thursday 14 June until the 17th at the state of the art Soweto Theatre complex. Not only will guests be entertained by great music, but also art, cuisine, and adventure.
Tickets can be purchased at sowetotheatre.com,Webtickets, and Pick n Pay outlets.
