K.O: 'I wanna be SA hip-hop’s Black Coffee'

The 'SETE' rapper has his eye on the international music stage.

South African rapper K.O wants to be the Black Coffee of South African hip-hop.

He made the comments while revealing what keeps him motivated. The 42-year-old took to Twitter a few days ago to ask his followers what they wanted to know about him.

"What keeps you going?" one fan asked. For K.O, the answer is simple - his dreams.

"I wanna be SA hip-hop's Black Coffee. I’ve tasted what the world feels like outside SA. I’m addicted," he replied.

Black Coffee is one of South Africa's biggest exports. The DJ won his first Grammy in 2022, and has collaborated with stars such as Drake, Alicia Keys, Usher, David Guetta, and more.

K.O got to rub shoulders with Drake at the 2011 BET Awards which were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angles.

The 'Run Jozi' hitmaker also got to mingle with Lil Wayne and Will Smith at the event.

K.O, whose real name is Ntokozo Mdluli, also revealed that he feels he is "underrated". His hit single, 'SETE', was snubbed at a recent awards show.

The song was officially certified gold in August 2022. He revealed at the time that it was the fastest single to reach gold in South African history.

But K.O doesn't base his success on the number of awards he has won.

"Respectfully, fam, I don’t consider awards as the symbol of success. If fanbases are the only thing that wins awards I’m totally comfortable not winning," he tweeted.

Despite trying his best to ignore the haters and remain positive, K.O says he's human.

K.O has another album coming out in the fourth quarter of 2023. He released his latest studio album, 'SR3', in September 2022.

The 14-track album features local musicians such as Pabi Cooper and KwaZulu-Natal musicians, Blxckie and Sjava.

He dropped a new single from the album last week called 'ROCKABYE' featuring Toss. The video for the song is expected to drop in the near future.

'ROCKABYE' is already gaining traction on social media platforms and could become the next viral song sensation.

K.O shared a video of one of his young fans dancing to the song.

"Once the kids start singing it you must know it’s a hit!" one Instagram user commented.

Another user added: "It's now gone viral if it hits this stage. You know once it hits this stage the parents will soon know about the song and a platinum plug is on the way ROCKABYE BABY."
