6 Ways to extend your phone’s battery life
Updated | By Lifestyle Reporter
There is nothing worse than your phone losing power when you need it the most. Here’s how you can make your battery last longer.
Being stranded on the side of the road without power is just about every South African’s worst nightmare.
Despite all the new technology the latest smartphones come with, manufacturers just can’t seem to get the battery longevity right.
It’s doesn’t help that the technology-obsessed generation is constantly on their phones, depleting power at fast rates.
The good news is there are ways you make your phone’s battery last longer – phone addict or not.

Lower your screen’s brightness
Just before your phone is about to die, you might notice that the screen’s brightness decreases. This is because your device’s display can have a big effect on your battery life. But don’t dim your screen’s brightness to the point that you have to squint to see text. Also consider adjusting your brightness for different times of the day, like morning and night.
Delete unwanted apps
Having too many apps on your phone not only uses up your data, but they can also consume a lot of your battery life. Deleting unwanted apps is a good place to start. Apps with a lot of features like social media networks are also known to use a lot of power. You can minimise the impact they have on your battery life by turning off or limiting notifications from the apps. Your phone is always connecting to these apps in the background - even when you are not using them – to ensure you get the notifications.
Invest in a power bank
One of the best ways to extend your phone’s battery life is to buy a power bank. This way if you run out of power, you connect your phone to the power bank to get some life back into it. We love the power bank from Snug. It is powered by the latest portable battery technology and allows for fast charging. It’s currently on special on the ECR Shop

Well, not too much anyway. The graphics and features used in gaming will consume a lot of power. You can counter this by playing your games with your screen’s brightness dimmed – which as we already know, is a good power saver.
Turn on power save mode
Most smartphones come with power saving mode. You should consider using the feature before your phone’s battery goes into the red – especially if you know you are expecting an important call or need to use your phone’s GPS to get home after a night out on the town.
Try not to charge your phone overnight
Charging your phone overnight now and again will unlikely have a big impact on your battery’s longevity, but doing so every day can. Fully charging your phone zero to 100% in one sitting is not ideal, particularly for devices that use lithium-ion batteries. Instead, aim for between 40% – 80% when charging your phone in one go. If your phone drops below 40% while you are using it, consider charging it for a bit.
