How to get married during lockdown

Is the lockdown getting in the way of you and your partner taking your relationship to the next level?

The good news is that you can still get married during the lockdown. 

While the government has prohibited mass gatherings, this doesn’t mean you cannot get married to the love of your life. 

What is important is to plan properly. 

Pick a date

The first thing you will need is to decide on a date. Talk to your partner about a date that will be most suitable for both of you and your loved ones.

Choose an online venue (platform)

More couples are tying the knot using social platforms such as Zoom, Tik Tok, Facebook, and Skype. 

This is the best way to get married during the national lockdown. It ensures that you do not have to worry about anyone breaking the lockdown rules, because people will still be safe at home. 

Another good thing about a virtual wedding is that you get to save thousands of Rands. This is because you don't have to worry about paying the venue, catering, and all the costs that normally come with having a wedding. 

Remember to check the time limit of the digital platform where you will be hosting your virtual wedding. Some online meeting places have limited time durations per meeting and the number of people who can join the meeting.  

Decide on the guest list

One of the things that makes planning a wedding hard is ensuring the right people are part of the ceremony. Sometimes couples are forced to invite, cater for, and accommodate people that aren't close to them because they are relatives. 

This is the perfect time to invite everyone to your wedding without worrying about the high cost of hosting and catering for hundreds of people.

Hire a marriage officiant 

Pastors have been declared essential workers by the President. The good thing is that many pastors are also marriage officers. This means you don’t need to go all the way to home affairs to have your marriage officiated. Hire a pastor who can marry you via an online platform.  

You can sign your marriage certificate at a later stage after the wedding.

Dress up

Dress up like the bride and groom, and don’t forget to ask your guests to also dress up. You can even decide on a theme. 

Many bridal shops have online deals. You can shop for your wedding attire online and have them delivered. 

Also, ensure that your make-up looks good. There are many make-up tutorials that you can practice online.
