PLAYLIST: Gordon Graham shares his eclectic travel playlist to keep you company!
Updated | By Gordon Graham
Power songs to keep you entertained when you're on the road, stuck at an airport, or high up in the sky!
I love to travel!
Ok, I’ll admit that it's not always as glamorous as it looks; long queues, dirty airports and living out of a suitcase - it's not for the faint hearted.
The comforts of home are far away and the international life is expensive.
However, please don't get me wrong, I'm extremely grateful for every opportunity because I'm well aware of how lucky I am and it obviously has more positives than negatives.

For context, I don't travel for leisure, my travels are work-related. I work as a sports announcer at triathlon races in Europe, Asia the Middle East and, of course, South Africa.
I won't lie, this is definitely one of the best jobs to do. I've had the opportunity to see some of the most incredible places on Earth and meet the most incredible people along the way.
What you don't always see, though, is the long hours on flights and a lot of waiting around in passport control queues.
The point I'm trying to make here is less about the inconveniences, but rather about what helps me get through the long queues and time spent in queues.
Music!

It's always good to have something to keep you entertained, because you can't change the above, but you can change the tone of your environment.
Normally I tune in to East Coast Gold because the music is amazing. But on the rare occasion where I don't have access to streaming the station, it really helps having a good travel playlist of great songs to keep me occupied.
Over the years this playlist has become more refined; I even have a folder on my phone dedicated to this type of music.
With so much music out there, how do you choose when compiling your ultimate travel playlist?

This is where it gets a little tricky because it's not a genre specific thing, but rather songs that suit your mood, environment, and pretty much songs that make you feel happy and relaxed.
So here goes, this is my top 10 must-have songs on my ‘travel playlist’:
- U2 - With or without you
- Rascal Flatts - Life is a highway
- Huey Lewis and the News - Power of love
- Bryan Adams - In the heat of the night
- John Mayer - Daughters
- Bruce Springsteen - Glory days
- INXS - Never Tear us Apart
- Tears for Fears - Woman in chains
- Dire Straits - Brothers in arms
- Belinda Carlisle - Leave a light on
As you can see, it's quite a diverse set of tracks; different styles, solo artists, bands, high tempoand some more ‘chilled’ but all of them make my travel experience more relaxed.
