Swap your bed for a kennel to help Durban’s homeless animals

Could you give up your comfy bed for one night to help a shelter animal? If you answered yes, the SPCA's kennel sleepover this August is the event for you.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Durban is challenging you to leave your warm and cosy bed to rough it up in their kennels all with the aim of raising awareness.

According to the SPCA, they see more than 13,000 homeless animals through their doors every year. Some of these furbabies are unwanted, abandoned, living on the streets, abused, hungry and cold.

They are requesting your support to provide a safe and warm space for these friendly four (and two-legged) creatures that are awaiting a second chance at life.

On this International Homeless Animals Day, 16 August, the SPCA wants you to join them. The cost per human is R200, and R50 for your dog to join you.

“PLUS ask your friends and family to sponsor your ‘adoption’ out of the kennels for the goal you set (Minimum R3500). Includes dinner, fun games & a goodie bag,” they shared.

All participants in the sleepover must have a profile for sponsorship on their website. You will be emailed these details after you sign up, along with other material to assist you.

If you’d like to visit the SPCA during this event, you are more than welcome to go between 4 pm and 6 pm for FREE.
