WATCH: Your WhatsApp work group could be breaking the law!

Getting messages from work WhatsApp groups after hours could be seen as a crime.

WhatsApp may be one of the applications to help us with communication, but according to the employment rules, people could be breaking the law by using it for work purposes after hours. 

According to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, employees may not work more than 45 hours a week. So, basically, what that means in theory is that if you're in a work WhatsApp group and receive messages when you're off the clock, the law is being broken.

An attorney at Schoeman LawKavita Kooverjee, spoke to eNCA about employees and their rights when it comes to WhatsApp groups.
