Dr Nomusa Shezi on being KZN's first black female neurosurgeon

This proudly KZN woman, who has now become a neurosurgeon, recently joined the Breakfast Team to chat about what lies ahead for her.

Many in KZN, including our Breakfast Team, were elated when news broke that Nomusa Shezi had become KZN's first black female neurosurgeon. What makes it even more special is that she is one of five South Africans to have qualified in the field.

According to Newswatch, 35-year-old Shezi was born in Pietermaritzburg and is currently based at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. Her love and passion for medicine began when she read about Dr Ben Carson, who separated twins joined at the head back in 1987 at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, USA.
