Bok legend Jean de Villiers turns into a crime-fighting hero

Jean de Villiers traded his SuperSport pundit role to become a local hero in Paarl.

There was a thief pondering his bad luck after he was caught shop-lifting by fleet-footed former Springbok centre Jean de Villiers in a Paarl shop.

A massive hero in Paarl came in the form of a former Springbok captain. 

According to IOL, former Springbok centre Jean de Villiers, was honoured on social media after he chased down a shoplifter.

The former Springbok captain was at The Boer and Butcher when he saw a man pocketing sweets and then leaving the shop without paying. 

Jean then used his jet shoes from his rugby glory days, to chase this man- down. 

De Villiers then went onto social media to get a soundbite from a local who saw it all play out as it was priceless. The audio is in Afrikaans but the guy reckons the Spingbok must come out of retirement.

The store owner Edu Hanekom had commented, De Villiers and his wife Marlie are regular customers at the store. 

They were waiting to pay for their goods when De Villiers saw this man helping himself to sweets.

When he didn't pay for the sweets, De Villiers followed him out of the store and then started to chase after him to which at that point the thief took off. 

The thief was brought back to the store and handed over to a security guard as the former Springbok used his rugby glory days to out sprint the thief.

The store owner Edu, was grateful to Jean and the fact that the Springbok still has some speed in him still..

"We are very grateful for Jean’s actions. It was quite a thing when a former Springbok captain arrived with a thief,” says Edu.
